In The Still Of The Night
‘In The Still Of The Night’ by @_enlivenus – “The desert air was warm and still. The sun was just above the horizon when we stepped on to the boat for a cruise around the hotel property. We had waited two years for this family trip that had been canceled in March, 2020 and we were having the best time. I swear, I was really trying to stay present in the moment but the reflection of the palm trees on the tip of the boat was too hard to ignore.
And my iPhone was calling my name.
I used a filter in the MonoVu app for this version of the photo.”
Reflection
‘Reflection’ by @candie_laine_photography – “The little girl in the photo is my neighbour and she often comes by to visit me. I was working on a different reflection photo with my mirror on the counter and she just came up to the counter like this and I thought it was cute that all you could see were her eyes. I placed the apple so she had something to look at and the rest was history. Basic editing was done in Snapseed, tuned up the saturation, exposure and increased the background blur a bit. ”
Have you ever seen the rain
‘Have you ever seen the rain’ by @jawdoc2 – “It often rains in Vancouver, but that does not deter me from trying to capture an interesting photo.
This time, however, instead of braving the elements, I decided to remain inside my car and shoot through the window.
Looking through the window, I noticed the lovely raindrops and tried to shoot something abstract.
Then some people with umbrellas walked by, and their tiny inverted REFLECTIONS were seen within each raindrop.
As there was not much colour, I changed to black and white and upped the contrast using the iPhone software. This created the punchy, graphic and somewhat abstract image.”
Muse
‘Muse’ by @maarten_lisboa – “Taken in Monsanto, one of my favorite villages in Portugal. A magical place in the middle of Portugal, close to the Spanish border. It wasn’t a rainy day but one small puddle of water, left after cleaning a house was enough to create this reflection. I am a fan of “imperfect reflections”, it doesn’t have to be a perfect mirror at all for me. ”
Untitled
‘Untitled’ by @pennijam – “This photo was taken at sunrise at Birubi Beach on the New South Wales coast in Australia. The morning light was beautiful as were the reflections at low tide. This dog was so friendly and came running up to me. As soon as I saw him approaching I crouched down and started shooting in burst mode. I was really pleased with the end result as was his owner who I saw on the beach a few weeks later and I was able to send her the photo. I did minimal editing using A Colour Story. ”
Anzac Day
‘Anzac Day’ by @persiflagepics – “Walking around early as preparations were still just beginning for the big Anzac Day March in Melbourne, I was looking for an interesting perspective.
I liked the Dior sign, especially when reflected into the car window. So I hung out waiting and hoping for someone to appear into frame. Some blokes were drinking early morning cans of VB (great local beer) when another came to join them.
I shot it on my iPhone 11 and used Snapseed to process it. I added a little contrast and found a moody black and white grade. It looked good in colour too but preferred it as a monochromatic image. It was still quite early low light so I added a touch of highlight. I then cropped it slightly to balance the composition and give it a bit more head room and bring out the reflected elements.”
The state of your life is nothing more than the reflection of you mind
‘The state of your life is nothing more than the reflection of you mind’ by @rinx_photography – “I took this candid shot of my husband lost in his news channels, while on a train journey. When I looked at the scene, what attracted me was the reflection which showed his profile but in front I could only see a bit of his face and phone. For me this was different as it showed two different sides, and not a normal mirror image.
I used Snapseed, Picsart and Retouch apps for my edits. ”
Last morning in Scarborough with The Binks
‘Last morning in Scarborough with The Binks’ by @sunflowerof21_365 – “This was taken on quite a cold breezy day on Scarborough Beach, Yorkshire. The people in the shot are my family and our friends, who we’d spent the weekend with. I deliberately stayed back as I’d spotted the potential for a reflection shot ahead. I crouched down to grab the shot when the moment was right. It was taken on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and edited in Hipstamatic (Jane/Irom 2000).”
The Minaretein, Qatar
‘The Minaretein, Qatar’ by @tanzil.ahmd – “Distinctive and designed in a way that connects heritage with modernity and originality, the Education City Mosque, designed by Mr Ali Mangera is one of the landmark buildings of Qatar Foundation, and of Doha. It is a special place as well as a spiritual one. Sweeping across the ground and reaching into the sky, I guess it was all about my love for reflections to see how certain architectures end up looking so visually satisfying with reflections. ”
Independence Day
‘Independence Day’ by @the.r.a.b.b.i.t – “This photo was captured on the 4th of February which marks the Independence Day in Sri Lanka. My mom was busy placing mini Sri Lankan flags around our house like she always does. This picture is one of my favourites to this day. It captivatingly captures the flag of my motherland in my mother’s eyes.
Shot was taken by using the Moment macro lens on my good old iPhone 8 Plus. Image was edited using the Snapseed app.”
Singapore Skyline Twilight
‘Singapore Skyline Twilight’ by @victor_zhuo – “This photo was captured using the Oppo Find X5 Pro smartphone with its ultra-wide 50 Megapixel camera and Night mode feature. Living in the city-state of Singapore, I am always inspired by the contrast between the colorful citylights and the dark night sky. This scene was further enhanced by the water reflections of the cityscape which gave it a harmonious symmetry. Only slight editing was made using the android application, Snapseed, to correct the perspective and to crop the photo into the 5:4 aspect ratio for Instagram.”
