The theme for the last Mobiography smartphone photo challenge was ‘On the Streets’. For this challenge the Mobiography community was asked to share their best photos that capture life on the streets. Think street photography, street portraits, urban scenes and people as they go about their day. Here is a small selection of some of the street photos that were tagged for this challenge.

‘Untitled‘ by @allophile_ – “Wandering around central Vienna on my first weekend there, I turned a corner and found myself in front of this famous Jugendstil facade. The city is a pedestrian-architecture-lover’s dream. As I got my phone out of my pocket, I noticed an elderly gentlemen off to my right, taking his Sunday evening stroll. Just a few seconds later, he strode into the scene – perfect timing, AND wearing a fedora. I took this with my iPhoneX, native camera, and used snapseed for just a bit of exposure correction.”
Stop. Breathe
‘Stop. Breathe‘ by @birheani – “So, I was exploring the side streets of Old Delhi when I decided to visit the great mosque of the late city, ‘Jama Masjid’. It is so full of colours and exudes extensively of peace! But what caught my eye was this group of children playing, laughing and living the best of their lives away from all sorts of worries and responsibilities. These children, though seemed under privileged, had forgotten the hardships of life and lived in the moment which reminded me to stop, breathe and contemplate the beautiful life we have, forget about our worries and live a little!

‘High light, By degrees‘ by @chasread – “In May, as the sun climbs higher in the sky, shadows start to rake across the walls of the city. Here, a gallery garage door in Chelsea catches Jacopo’s fleeting passage.

Escape from the shadows
‘Escape from the shadows‘ by @di.monheit19 – “While on a photowalk in San Francisco with a group of other Instagrammers, I saw this building’s fire escapes. It struck me that the shadows became almost three-dimensional in this light. When I got home, using Snapseed, I gave the shadows a bit more contrast to achieve this image.”

‘Untitled‘ by @geek1956 – “This photo was taken using the Hipstamatic camera app during an early morning walk through Sydneys’ university campus. I had already visualised the capture I wanted so I waited patiently at the base of these stairway. This is one of my favourite captures.”
Subway Musician
‘Subway Musician‘ by @iphoto_paul – “Looking at the original image I realized I could create two images out of the one. I enlarged the street performer and started by running it through Snapseed to get the HDR effect. From there I felt like it needed some Scratches so I ran it through Distresses FX. In that app I used two filters a grunge filter and then the scratch filter combined.
My last step was to run it through Filterstorm, In Filterstorm I work with my layers. I’ll place on the bottom the image with that had I had apps applied to it and the top layer I would place the original image and I then use the mask feature to remove the texture covering the musician.”
On the way home
‘On the way home‘ by @ipiotrxs – “I commute a lot in my daily life, and it’s during this time that most of my photos are taken: while on buses and trams, while waiting at various stops. This picture was taken near my workplace during an average workday. I’ve started seeing bus and tram stops as a transition place and time between my work and family life; a moment to make the change from your coporate life to wearing worn out t-shirts and spending time with those you love.
This image was shot on iPhone Xs with portrait mode on for the depth of field. I also played with shadows and highlights a bit, and edited as little as possible.”
On line…
‘On line…‘ by @jawdoc2 – “Late afternoon sun created those interesting shadow lines and geometry. I waited patiently for a passerby to create a focal point within the frame. I did not have to wait too long for the perfect silhouette. Captioned ‘on line’ for obvious reasons.”

‘Untitled‘ by @lopespaulacc – “This picture was taken within the walls of the “chateau de ducs de bretagne ” during a tourist visit to the city of Nantes. It was taken with an iPhone 7 and edited with Instagram tools. ”
Black Canvas
‘Black Canvas‘ by @maisefoyuti – “I took this picture on my summer vacation with my daughter, in Conil de la Frontera (southern Spain).
This facade was always the starting point of our evening walks down to the sea. A meeting point with great friends and where our eyes were filled with color. A large blank canvas dotted with colorful pots with geraniums and ferns, perfect for immortalizing in this photo.
The editing process has been very simple, just a few straightening and light touches in the editing software of the camera of my iPhone XR, Snapseed to correct the perspective and VSCO to adjust exposure, contrast and a little tone, with preset S2 at 30%.”
Half & Half
‘Half & Half‘ by @mcristina_gonzalez – “I took this picture last year in Prague, it was a one day visit so I tried to get the most out of it. I especially like monochrome pictures and the subject and background fits perfectly in this case. I prefer to isolate my subjects in order to have less distractions, this was a very crowded street so I had just a few seconds to shoot. I like the shadow diagonal which divided the picture in two (light-shadow). The subject reflects what we all do these days, check our phones and sometimes miss the important moments.
I edited this picture with Snapseed, SKRWT to straighten it and an Instagram filter.”
Heavy loads
‘Heavy loads‘ by @rawsdeb – “This photo was taken while on a visit to Jaipur, India. I was impressed with the large bundles this man was carrying on his bicycle. It was taken on iPhone 7+ and edited in Snapseed. ”
Day 449 – Portrait
‘Day 449 – Portrait‘ by @smithdavidjeremy – “I practice with the band (Ape Apocalypse) on Sunday afternoons, but always arrive early so I can walk around the neighbourhood to try to get a picture for the day. The practice space is by the train station, and there are always plenty of interesting characters.
The woman in the photo was sitting at a bus stop, and was watching me as I approached, but I thought she’d looked away as I got ready to shoot. I only saw the result later in the day.
I shot the photo with the standard iPhone Camera app, and processed it with Hipstamatic. (Takashi Lens/Kitsune Film/Triple Crown Flash)”
