She Soared Like an Eagle
‘She Soared Like an Eagle‘ by Sandra Becker – “I was inspired to do this particular manipulation of photos to express my admiration of the many young woman I know who have overcome treacherous obstacles in trying to better themselves.
The process involved choosing from the many photos I have taken for the the subject herself. I then worked on painting a combination of three different public domain photos of an eagle in the app procreate to combine with my photo image. I used the apps superimpose and icolorama to combine those two images, the background I created, textures, and the tree limb images from some of my other mobile photos. I then used the LensLight app to add a texture and filter.”
Shadow Child on Shadow Train
‘Shadow Child on Shadow Train‘ by jo sullivan – “First of all the initial photograph is by Andrew Lucchesi. The other layers I used are from Unsplash which I took into Superimpose and then Mextures. My intent for this work was to bring attention to, not only the Syrian immigration crisis, but to all those suffering with horrific displacement in their lives. Leaving one’s home country against one’s will must be one of the most difficult experiences any could suffer.”
The Artist and the Muse: Stefania Pecchioli
‘The Artist and the Muse: Stefania Pecchioli‘ by Carolyn Hall Young – This is an iPad birthday portrait for Stefania Pecchioli, who is a wonderful mobile artist.
In iColorama, on an iPad Air 2, I started with a stylized image from Stephania. I also used a piece from Andrea Bigiarini, as a source for Stefania’s face.
I am primarily a painter, who photographs, rather than a photographer who paints. In the past, I would process and print in dark rooms, and work in a variety of natural media.
I started working in digital art, over thirty years ago, combining digital prints, transfers, collage and paint, in natural media.
With iColorama, I truly enjoy the luxury of seamlessly combining the best of dark room and digital photographic processing tools, with what feels like mixed media collage, and painting. It is a great hybrid of the mediums.
First, I collected possible elements, made a rough composite, that included masking and blending of the photographs mentioned above, and blending layers of steps from an earlier portrait I had done of Stefania. I added textures I had created, and a nod of respect to Richard Diebenkorn’s “Ocean Park” paintings approach.
I, then, went to a straight painting (brushes) mode, in iColorama, to further alter the drawing, and color shapes. I was vaguely thinking of the painters, Max Beckmann and Edward Hopper, and some 1930s Italian painters, in their amplified sense of color and shadow.
In this piece, I was combining possibilities of digital distortion, and effects, with a dramatic, romantic, vintage oil painting-like style. Wrapping up, I worked with color and contrast, and I blended in some traditional canvas texture, and a slightly raised effect.
I normally spend an insane amount of time in making each image, this one, included. I have plenty of experience the flawed starts, and backtracking, that happen when I am risking enough to fail. I learn more there. We have more creative choices to explore, than ever before, and better tools, almost daily. With the iPad and the apps becoming more powerful, I have been pushing myself harder and further, and expecting more from the images, before I consider them done.
When I Can’t Sleep, I Bathe In Art
‘When I Can’t Sleep, I Bathe In Art‘ by Angie Lambert – “This image is from The Woolgathering Moments Series, which were captured and processed with the iPhone 6 Plus.
I felt inspired to create a few images that were organic, alluring, and storytelling. Those are my favorites. I walked outside and began gathering foliage. I rummaged through the potting shed and found a small bag of soil (leftovers from spring plantings), so I brought it inside, as well. I kept thinking about how I wanted to situate myself amidst the greenery and dirt. I wanted to incorporate water, so this led me to the bathroom. Then I was on a mission to set up a makeshift studio, gathering the tripod, boxes, remote shutter device, and towels. I duct taped the tripod atop a tower of boxes, filled the bathtub with warm water and thereafter The Woolgathering Series came to life.
I get lost in the artful world of creating these storytelling images … over-and-over again. I’m part kid and the other part is completely addicted to mobile photography. I appreciate our sharing and this artful forum on which we can do so.
Apps Used: Camera+, then I move through various features of this app, prior to saving the image to my camera roll. For this image, I used backlit, lab (for cropping), and retro’s fashion filter. Formulas, Mextures, Over (to add my signature), iResize and Shuttr (this is my handheld, remote shutter device)”
Autumn
‘Autumn‘ by Eraddatz Photo – “I am always inspired by the wonder and beauty of Autumn. The colors, the coolness of morning and the way the light transitions through the day. Every year there is a plethora of images depicting the change in trees and leaves. In my effort to capture the emotions I experience in this time I took a photo, using my iPhone 6+, of a vase of mums. Then utilizing my go to app, Snapseed, I used the settings; Crop, Retrolux, Lens Blur, Grunge, HDR Scape and Tune Image (not particularly in that order) to convey, I hoped, these feelings to the observer. ”

The red dress
‘The red dress‘ by Candice (CLAY) Railton – “The apps I used for the red dress were Photo Toaster, Phonto, Image Blender and Glaze.
What inspired me – I learnt ballet quite late in life 38yrs old. I’m definitely no professional but was quite amazed at what I could learn at such a late age. I often use pictures of ballerinas in my edits usually combined with Army pictures. I used to be in the Australian Army and the two believe it or not require the same kind of discipline and provided me with similar pleasure. The lady in the red dress also symbolizes me. They are both back to back and are dreaming of things they love. I like the simplicity of both the women pictured in my edit.”
