Looking up along the Danube

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 1

‘Looking up along the Danube’ by @allophile – “Donau City Tower 1, (220m/720ft), on the northern bank of the Danube, with its striking, angularly undulating facade, is the tallest building in Austria. On my last trip abroad before the covid pandemic began, I had a week on my own in Vienna, and one day, while on my morning run, I decided on the spur of the moment to hop on one of the city’s bike-share bicycles. Several miles later, I found myself at the base of this skyscraper. I’d admired it in a few photos, but didn’t guess, that morning, that I’d be looking up at it in person. (Hope to have some more of these spontaneous moments while traveling again someday!)

Taken with the iPhoneX native camera, then used the Color Splash app to preserve the blue reflection on the building’s facade before using Snapseed to ‘flatten’ the desaturated sky, add a grainy film feel, and finally a ‘top-heavy’ vignette effect.”

Happy Father’s Day to My Dad & Yours

‘Happy Father’s Day to my dad & yours’ by @camhaynes22 – “My father and I were talking one day and during the conversation I realized I wanted to photograph what he was wearing. I love those little red stitches that secure the buttons and the overall symmetry (or asymmetry?) of his coat over the pink shirt.

Even though I don’t remember the actual conversation I think it might have included some of this; “Keep talking. I’m listening” [as I pulled out my phone, opened the camera] then I probably said something like “uh huh. ya. Keep going, I’m still listening. Don’t move”. [click]

Photographed with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and posted to Instagram on Father’s Day, Canada.”

Youth, Amplitude and Freedom

‘Youth, Amplitude and Freedom’ by @ceci.fogel.glusman – “Last year, I met this beautiful group of guys from my kibutz almost touching the sky… Loved it!

The photo was taken with an iPhone 11 Pro and edited in Snapseed.”

‘Untitled’ by @fredverbeke – “I was sightseeing in a town I hadn’t visited before when this beautiful building drew my attention. I went in for a closer look and to get some pictures. As I walked around the building, the exterior staircase seemed like an eye catcher and worthy of some photos. I ended up underneath the staircase, taking a picture while looking up. This resulted in this minimal image after some editing in Lightroom.”

Laguna beach, California

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 5

‘Laguna beach, California’ by @gerimikelson – “I took the shot while visiting my son and his family in southern California last December using my iPhone 12 ProMax. It was a gray foggy morning at the beach and I was watching two paddle boarders as I was walking along a wonderful coastal path in Laguna Beach. I was actually surprised anyone would be in the water, it must have been very cold.

I had been inspired by many of the minimalistic shots I had seen on Instagram and thought it would be a great day to try some. There were so many brightly colored flowers along the path but this bristle-like bush caught my eye. I wanted a low angle so that one would only see the ocean and sky in the background and used the 1x lens. I don’t remember doing much editing to it. There wasn’t a lot of color in the image naturally so I used black and white to make more of an impact and added a strong vignette. It was afterwards that I realized I had caught the tiny figures of the paddle boarders in the shot.”

Rooftop Workers

‘Rooftop Workers’ by @jsmayores – “Shot was taken just this year outside our office in Dubai. I was near our workplace when the cloud formation offered a nice composition for a silhouette of the two rooftop workers. I clicked a couple of shots from my Oppo Reno 6 and edited the photo using phone editor to emphasize the contrast of the clouds and the subjects.”

Bird Song

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 7

‘Bird Song’ by @lizanderson48 – “I have always been mesmerized by birds that line up on telephone wires side by side. It always reminds me of the Leonard Cohen song, “Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free”. These black birds even seemed to be lined up like the notes on a musical grid and I couldn’t resist taking their picture.

The image was taken on my iPhone 7 and edited in Snapseed. ”

‘Untitled’ by @miguelcastellano_photo – “This photo was taken in Barcelona, at the door of an art exhibition. I love minimalism, so when I saw people opening the curtain to exit only showing their hand for a moment in that big blue space I felt the need to take the pic because the composition of that little detail of the hand in that negative space. ”

‘Untitled’ by @mikemantx – “We traveled the Ring Road of Iceland this last summer. Icelanders are not affraid of color, as most of the homes and buildings of Reykjavic are a variety of vibrant colors. After a long day driving through the eat fjords and longing for real food, we were en-route to Egilsstadir. This little hut is an emergency shelter on the mountain pass Fagridalur, situated just east of the highest point. The valley’s name is Fagridalur or Fair valley, and it is the mountain pass between the East fjords and the inland communities. More precisely it connects the village of Reydarfjördur (Fjord of the baleen whales) and Egilsstadir (The place of Egil – Egill is a male name). Now defunct, this has been the life-giver of travellers for as long as the valley is quite treacherous with really foul winter weather, snow, and heavy storms. It has been there for probably more than 50 years.

Not much to edit in Snapseed, other than adding some structure and added contrast to allow the color to pop against the mountain shadows.”

The Light Within

‘The Light Within’ by @susanblanda – “This image was born of just playing around with apps. I did not document the process so I don’t have a lot of info on it. But I love to experiment and highly recommend it! ”

Highett

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 12

‘Highett’ by @ushi.g – “l love exploring the seemingly mundane urban and industrial landscapes that we often just bypass. These minimal scenes can provide a refreshing visual break from the constant flood of information, and visual noise that we face every day.

This image has minimal processing, only a little contrast added for a bit of extra punch.”

Minimal blue pain

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 13

‘Minimal blue pain’ by @vickieiphoto52 – “When I set out to create a photo using paint as the subject I knew it would be minimal. Why? Because I have no talent as a painter. I wanted to leave it up to the viewer as to what the next stroke should be. I used blue because I was thinking it is a nice calming color. At this point in time the world needs to be painted in a soft blue calming color. Shot on iPhone 11 Pro Max and edited in Snapseed and Lightroom.”

I’m not like everybody else

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Beautifully Minimalist Inspired Smartphone Photos 14

‘I’m not like everybody else’ by @wolfdogz_ – “I took a quick trip to London to meet some friends in February 2020 shortly before the pandemic hit. We went on a photo walk this day, and one of the stops was the Tate Modern museum for some very cool (and famous) photo ops. This staircase there is very popular, and I decided to take a different, up-close POV in this particular frame. This photo is called ‘I’m not like everybody else’.”
