It was blowing a gale

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Stunning Sky Inspired Smartphone Photos 1

‘It was blowing a gale’ by @alice1280 – “This is the kind of weather for mobile photography. It was blowing a gale and threatening rain but we walked anyway. The clouds got blacker and I asked my husband to walk up the dune. The sand was flying off the top and I loved the contrast between the black sky and the sand. He provided the rule of third. We got soaked and the phone got rinsed off at home. It really is water and sand resistant. Lightly edited with Snapseed.”

‘Untitled’ by @allophile_ – “We went for a short hike in Saguaro National Park one evening last summer at the beginning of our monsoon season. We’d had a cloudy day when it seemed to rain everywhere around us but not where we live. At the last possible moment, after official sunset time, the light from just below the western horizon lit up the grey with these surreal, ‘sherbet’-colors, and the sky morphed into this surreal scene beyond the cacti.

Taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max, I used snapseed for some exposure correction and to highlight the textures of the cholla cactus in the foreground.”

Cloudy day in Putrajaya

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Stunning Sky Inspired Smartphone Photos 3

‘Cloudy day in Putrajaya’ by @aniraz95 – “I captured this photograph in October 2020 during a two months break from Movement Control Order imposed by the Government due to Covid19. I was out for a bicycle ride with two girlfriends on a fine, cloudy day in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The sky was terrific due to the altocumulus clouds and sun partially hidden behind the thick clouds, and the calm lake made a beautiful reflection of the gorgeous sky, tall buildings, and bridge – too beautiful not to photograph! This area is popular with walkers, runners, cyclists, local residents, and photographers due to the scenic landscape and user-friendly facilities. The photograph was taken using the Ultra Wide mode on Apple iPhone 11 Pro and edited with Hipstamatic App using Jane Lens, T.Roosevelt26 Film and Apollo Flash.”

…..the dawn…..

‘…..the dawn…..’ by @camera_n_i – “The early morning scenery at a Camp site . In the frame my child in red waiting for the sun to make an appearance. I took the photo on my iPhone 11. ”

‘Untitled’ by @harnaka_harto – “This photo was taken at Labuan Bajo which is a place that consists of small islands; around 50 islands in one area, that you can go by ships from one island to others. This place is beautiful, the water also very clear, and you can do snorkeling and diving there, even you can find manta rays here.

At sunrise and sunset are so beautiful, because of clear weather, with small clouds over the sky, and the sun goes down or goes up from the hill of islands, and this make an ideal place for landscape photos”

upswing

‘upswing’ by @jawdoc2 – “As the sky was transforming into this explosive colour feast, a guy gets on the swing to create the perfect silhouette against the amazing backdrop. Shot on my iPhone 7 plus and edited using the iPhone software.”

‘Untitled’ by @jhetta – “I took this photo in August 2020 in Two Harbors, MN. I had recently gotten into taking photos and learning about composition from looking at all the amazing photos on Insta. It was a perfect day looking out into Lake Superior. Although I was facing away from the sunset, the skies still had that pink vibe to it. It was taken with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I think I used Luminar AI to edit this.”

‘Untitled’ by @jos_nijkamp – “I walk a lot on the beach of Kijkduin, part of The Hague. That evening had a beautiful combination in the air: the colourful sunset and at the same time the dark clouds, telling us rain was imminent. I wanted to photograph this duality in the sky. I took the photo with Hipstamatic in a square format. It makes me look more conscious what to place in the photo and what to leave out of it.

At home I made the sunset a bit more colourful and the grass a bit lighter, both in Snapseed. I had just that day noticed some new birds in DistressedFX. The white parts of the birds contrasted well with the dark clouds so I put them in the photo. I also mirrored the photo vertically.”

Tidal flats of Barnegat Bay

‘tidal flats of Barnegat Bay’ by @jschack1818 – “I took my photo during sunset on the tidal flats of Barnegat Bay in Ocean County New Jersey USA. I loved how the sky reflected off of the law tide pools, and the sky drama was amazing. I lightly edited my photo in Snapseed to bring out the textures and to straighten my horizon.”

Finding Hope and Light Within The Darkness

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Stunning Sky Inspired Smartphone Photos 10

‘Finding Hope and Light Within The Darkness’ by @robynmencher – “I took this image (St. Pete Beach, Florida area) from the west facing, seventh floor of my home in October 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. I had been self-isolating since March of that year due to being immuno-compromised and found great comfort in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets from my windows. The golden hour appeared to stretch endlessly across the universe and I quickly took a few pictures before the light faded (iPhone 11 Pro Max, native camera, edited with Hipstamatic and Snapseed). I paired it with a quote by writer Virginia Woolf, “So fine was the morning except for a streak of wind here and there that the sea and sky looked all one fabric, as if…the clouds had dropped down into the sea.”

Dancing For No Reason

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Stunning Sky Inspired Smartphone Photos 11

‘Dancing For No Reason’ by @susanblanda – “This image was shot during a beautiful sunset in Dana Point way back in 2017. I believe I edited it in Snapseed and also used a “mirror” app that is not around anymore. Can’t remember the name of it that app but there are so many better mirror apps these days! ”

Gatlinburg Skybridge

Mobiography Photo Challenge: 15 Stunning Sky Inspired Smartphone Photos 12

‘Gatlinburg Skybridge’ by @tenderfoot_photo – “I was visiting the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee last spring and had the opportunity to see the Gatlinburg Skybridge which is 1800 feet above sea level. The sun had already set. The mountains were turning into silhouettes as the skies turned shades of blue and purple. The bridge is 700 feet across a very deep valley. It’s very dramatic and I wanted to showcase the leading lines of the bridge amidst the gorgeous backdrop. It’s a bit intimidating when you are on the bridge, and I snapped a shot of a person slowly walking across before I attempted the walk myself. I basically wanted to ensure I had three elements: a strong point of view showcasing the leading lines, a vanishing point that included a human element, and the landscape of the Smoky Mountains in the background.

I edited with Snapseed to adjust the perspective and perfect the symmetry of the leading lines. I tuned the image to adjust brightness and contrast and used the selective tool to intensify the texture of the bridge. Lastly, I used the Curve Tool to adjust RGB and luminance. ”
