Once again I am pleased to present this years ’24 Mobile Photographers Til Christmas’. It is a series that has been run throughout December for the last couple of years and has always been successfully received. In part, it is to celebrate the forthcoming festive season but also to celebrate another year in the timeline of Mobiography.
In the series I ask 24 hand picked mobile photographers to offer an insight into their work, to reflect on their year gone by or plans for the coming year ahead. Each featured photographer is someone who has inspired or supported me in one way or another during the course of the past year. One photographer will be showcased each day until Christmas Eve in a sort of online advent calendar so to speak.
Today’s featured photographer is Paul Moore
The photo I am most proud of is…
I have chosen two photos to talk about which I am most proud of. The first is of my children playing with a kite at sunset. Of all the photos that I have taken this is my favourite yet. It was taken with a Canon 700D. You might wonder why I have decided to go with a DSLR shot for a piece on a mobile photography site. There are 2 reasons. Firstly it is probably the only photo I have taken that I am entirely happy with. There is nothing I would like to change about it. It captures my children being happy and carefree, enjoying a beautiful summers evening.
Secondly, and most importantly from a Mobiography point of view, it uses all the techniques that I have developed over the the years that I have used my phone to take photos. When using an iPhone camera for photography you always have to be very aware of light because of the fixed aperture. Also due to to the size and portability of phones you can experiment with point of view and composition. All of these factors played a part in helping me to capture this scene. Ultimately the camera is only a tool. As Ansel Adams said “The single most important component of a camera is the twelve inches behind it!”. For me spending a number of years exclusively using an iPhone camera proved to be invaluable training for when I made the move to using a DSLR
The second is a mobile shot and was taken the grounds of a local castle during winter.
I think it nicely captures the feeling of a cold and dark winter’s morning. Not the most uplifting of photos I will admit. This reason I have picked this photo is because it was chosen to be included in an exhibition in the Mobile Camera Club in Paris earlier this year. Now I have had photos in other exhibitions around the world but this one was special because, by a very happy coincidence, the opening of the exhibition happened to be on the same day that my wife and I arrived in Paris. Our trip to Paris had been organised long before I found out about the exhibition so I was delighted to find out the two events coincided. Over the years I built up many contacts in the mobile photography world through social media. Attending the opening of the exhibition gave me the opportunity to meet some of my favourite mobile photographers in person. It has been one of the highlights of my photographic journey so far.
Beautiful choices Paul. Amazing images.
