Once again I am pleased to present this years ’24 Mobile Photographers Til Christmas’. It is a series that has been run throughout December for the last couple of years and has always been successfully received. In part, it is to celebrate the forthcoming festive season but also to celebrate another year in the timeline of Mobiography.

In the series I ask 24 hand picked mobile photographers to offer an insight into their work, to reflect on their year gone by or plans for the coming year ahead. Each featured photographer is someone who has inspired or supported me in one way or another during the course of the past year. One photographer will be showcased each day until Christmas Eve in a sort of online advent calendar so to speak.

Today’s featured photographer is Marzia Bellini

The photo I am most proud of is…

The story behind this photo is simple, you can do anything you want, just do it!

I took this shot in Viterbo at the Terme dei Papi thermal resort and the subject of the photo is my fiancee Marco, right behind a rusty glass. This was one of those times where you “see” the photo before taking it: I had this perfect romantic and mysterious image in my mind, I just needed a model (hey Marco!) and more confidence in my ability to properly direct him into helping me shooting what I had foresee. It’s not simple and if you’re a shy human being (like me) it’s even harder, people watching you taking shots and moving around while telling the “model” where he should be. I usually just stop after a couple of shots because I can’t take the embarrassment. But this was not the case, I was so concentrated in keeping in mind what I wanted and how to obtain it that I forgot where we were (among people not particularly impressed of my efforts with my mobile phone).

So what’s special with this is image it’s that you can overcome your fears with photography and being a better person and that’ why I love photography. Not only does it help me express my creativity but it can also help me progressing where I lack intentions.

This do not mean that the shot was perfect and didn’t need any edit…

Since I was taking the shots from the sidewalk of the pool and not right in front of the subject, reaching out my arm to get the phone in front of the scene, the original photo was in need of cropping (thanks to the woman who was so curious to find out what I was shooting) and perspective correction. I particularly enjoyed the editing of this shot, because besides cropping and perspective it didn’t need anything else. I love the turquoise color of the glass which makes a lovely contrast withe the white and grey of the pool.
