Following on from last years successful ’24 Mobile Photographers Til Christmas’ series and to celebrate the forthcoming festive season and another year in the timeline of Mobiography I have decided to repeat the series and showcase the work, thoughts and insights of 24 talented mobile photographers. Each featured photographer has inspired and supported me in one way or another during the course of the past 2 years and I will be asking them to offer an insight into their photography, to reflect on their year gone by or plans for the coming year ahead.

Each day until Christmas Eve we will be featuring one photographer in a sort of online advent calendar so to speak.

Today’s featured photographer is Robin Robertis.

Do you have any exciting photographic project plans for the coming year ahead?

I have always enjoyed art. I don’t read or write or think very well. I suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder and procrastinate a lot.

When I shoot with my iPhone it allows me to see what I want to see. I am a prolific shooter and have about 6-8000 pictures on my two iPhones.

My favorite apps are Snapseed, Touch Retouch, Blender, Anti Crop, Filterstorm and Phototoaster. I have been playing with a few other new apps lately such as Photoshops Mix which is pretty cool, Filtery and 3DWarpCam which are both pretty funky. I have also revisited Symmetry lately which has been loads of fun. This year I have been shooting using Provoke, Dramatic, the iPhones native camera, Noir and as always Hipstamatic. These apps allow me draw, add shadow, brighten, color, paint and add texture, then turn thing sideways/upside down and more. This is the way I normally see things.

I find my art takes on my moods, or would it be vice versa? I love shooting underwater, which is my second home.

During the course of the last 2 years I have been blessed with being able to travel to many destinations throughout the world such as Istanbul, Bali, the Gili Islands, Thailand, Cambodia, China, Japan and Laos.

On the Gili Islands I was fortunate enough to shoot Muslim pilgrims on the beach of Gili Tawanga. It turned into an iPhone love fest with me taking pictures of them, taking pictures of me. I tweaked the images in Snapseed right there on the beach and gained some new fans. My sister said it looked like I might have inadvertently gotten married on that beach after pronouncing their Arabic prayer perfectly after one try. I was given prayer beads, that I still wear, the crowd bowed and blessed me. My possible husband still emails and in a way I was married. I am married to this life of exploration and expression. My passport is an iPhone.

I work for the airlines, as an air hostess of sorts. Fluke of all flukes, while traveling in Beijing I noticed that the language sounded sideways and upside down, just like the way I see life, so I decided to take it up and I’m now qualified as a Mandarin speaker.

My goal for the coming year ahead is to shoot every continent and every sea with my iPhone. I’ve done pretty good so far. My iPhone lets me see things the way I see things, everything being sideways and upside down. The iPhone isn’t intimidating to me and I take comfort in the fact that there are only a few buttons to press to achieve the results I desire.
