“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” — Milton Berle

“If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” — Milton Berle‘ by David Ingraham – “I was shooting Downtown L.A. with a friend a few months back. I saw this cowboy standing at the intersection waiting to cross the street. He looked like he was straight out of ol’ school Texas– with his hat, mustache and boots — very out of place in the big city. I snuck up behind him and grabbed a few quick shots using Hipstamatic. I later cropped the shot to accentuate the vertical feel of the city as well as working the tones and sharpness in Snapseed. The image made me think of an outsider beholding the big city and the opportunities it offers, so I matched it with this apropos Milton Berle quote ‘If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.'”

3219

3219‘ by Fábio Morbec – “I was walking in downtown (Chicago) during a photo walk when I notice the trails of the train (almost all train lines are elevated in Chicago, specially in downtown) and the space between two buildings. I had the composition in mind, so I just had to wait for the train (fortunately, it was not too fast). I took two photos and I like this one. I used Hipstamatic app. No additional editions.”

High‘ by Fábio Morbec – “This photo was shot the same day of the “3219”. This is other part of the L system. I was waiting a train and decided to shot without it and I think it worked very well, IMO. I used the app “contrast by hornbeck”. No additional editions.”

Urban Living (Singapore)

Urban Living (Singapore)‘ by Heline Lam – “I took this photo in Singapore last year to capture the urban lifestyle, depicted in the setting of a shopping mall, that is common in Asia. At the same time I wanted to highlight the modern architectural structure, representing the growth and progress seen across the Asia region.

This photo was taken on iPhone 5 and post-edited on Snapseed and Laminar.”

South Wacker Drive

South Wacker Drive‘ by Richard Pilon – “Chicago is a great city for architectural shots. Sometimes I compose my shots carefully and other times a spontaneous shot does the trick, as with this shot taken on South Wacker Drive near the Willis Tower. In this case I saw a plane overhead and quickly took a shot to capture it between the tall buildings. I shot this with Hipstamatic and converted to black and white using Snapseed.”

Abandoned school, Goldfield, Nevada

Abandoned school, Goldfield, Nevada‘ by Robert Eckhardt – “Goldfield, Nevada, is more than a bit out of the way, and even though the ore may have run out, it’s a real gold mine for iPhone photographers. When I arrived on a hot Fall afternoon, I parked by the courthouse (still in use) and immediately was confronted by the ruins of the old school across the street. The crumbling building framed by a cloud-filled desert sky was irresistible. Standing directly in front of the cyclone fence barrier, I used Bracket Mode to generate a hand-held sequence of over- and under-exposed image pairs, then loaded them all into AutoStitch. The stitch wasn’t perfect, and it certainly wasn’t rectilinear, but then neither was the building at this point, so I went with it. Some final touches added structure to the brick and stone work, and a little overwrought drama to the clouds.”
